Test whether your marketing copy is clear to a decision maker
Copilot Chat
Short answer: Upload the document to Copilot Chat and ask whether a decision maker would understand the core value: yes, partly or no first. Then ask for what's clear, what's not (quoted), jargon to cut, missing proof and a two-sentence rewrite. Run the follow-up to hear the questions a skeptical buyer would ask.

After the fifth review round, nobody on the team can read the copy with fresh eyes. Copilot can. A two-minute clarity check before launch saves a rewrite later, and marketers who catch unclear messaging early protect the whole campaign.
A common situation (composite)
We've rewritten this page six times.
Everyone signed off.
I still can't explain what we sell in one sentence.
What you get
- Data: one marketing document and who it's for.
- Does: scores clarity and points to the confusing lines.
- Output: a verdict, a list of fixes and a two-sentence rewrite.
- How often: before anything goes live.
Before you start
- Needs: Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. Not sure what you have? Start here.
- Microsoft's label for this scenario: Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.
- Where: Copilot Chat.
- Access: Copilot only uses content you already have permission to open. Use only information your company allows in Copilot.
The steps
- Upload or paste the document.
- Name the reader: role, company type, what they care about.
- Run the prompt.
- Run the follow-up for the buyer's questions.
- Fix the top three issues, then run it again.
Copy this prompt
Read this document as a [decision maker role] at a [company type] who cares about [their priority].
Answer first: is the core value clear? Yes, partly or no.
Then:
- What's clear
- What's unclear, quoting the exact lines
- Jargon to cut or replace
- Claims that need proof
- A two-sentence value statement that would work for this reader
- A clarity score from 1 to 5, with one reason
Don't add facts that aren't in the document.
(Prompt from stuckwithcopilot.com/guides/messaging-clarity-test/)
Make it better
Run this next, in the same chat.
Now list the three questions a skeptical [CFO] would ask after reading this, and point to where the document should answer each one. If it doesn't, say what's missing.
(Prompt from stuckwithcopilot.com/guides/messaging-clarity-test/)
Data tip: use this with your work Copilot, and leave out passwords, payment details and anything your company marks restricted.
What a good result looks like
A straight verdict up front, quoted lines you can find and fix, and a rewrite that uses only facts from the document.
If a feature is missing
If the file won't upload, paste the main sections. For a deck, paste the slide text.
Make it smarter
Keep a short "What it got wrong" note. Paste it above the prompt next time, like "Don't invent dates".
Not sure what to ask? Copy the quick note for your Copilot admin.
Questions people ask
Test whether your marketing copy is clear to a decision maker?
Upload the document to Copilot Chat and ask whether a decision maker would understand the core value: yes, partly or no first. Then ask for what's clear, what's not (quoted), jargon to cut, missing proof and a two-sentence rewrite. Run the follow-up to hear the questions a skeptical buyer would ask.
What do I need for this?
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. If the file won't upload, paste the main sections. For a deck, paste the slide text.
Is Copilot's clarity score reliable?
Use it as a quick check, not a final grade. The quoted lines and buyer questions are the useful part.
Can I test it for different audiences?
Yes. Run it again with a different reader. Copy that works for a CFO often fails for an IT lead.
Should I test competitor pages too?
It's a good exercise. Paste a public competitor page and compare the clarity scores and verdicts.
Try it once, then make it yours.
