You've seen people paste a draft into ChatGPT and ask "does this sound rude?" Here's how in Copilot: write the draft in Outlook and use Coaching by Copilot. It suggests changes you can apply.

A common situation (composite)

I have to push back on a client.
I've rewritten it five times.
I want a second opinion that isn't my coworker.

What you get

  • Data: your own email draft.
  • Does: gives feedback on tone and clarity.
  • Output: suggestions you can apply.
  • How often: any email that matters.

Before you start

  1. Needs: Copilot in Outlook with a work account. Not sure what you have? Start here.
  2. Where: Outlook, Coaching by Copilot.
  3. Access: Copilot only uses content you already have permission to open. Use only information your company allows in Copilot.

The steps

  1. Write the full draft first. On mobile it needs at least 100 characters.
  2. Select the Copilot icon and choose Coaching by Copilot.
  3. Read each suggestion. Apply the ones that sound like you.
  4. Read it once more, then send.

Make sure the draft has:
- the one thing you need from them
- the date you need it by

What a good result looks like

The ask and the date survive the edits.

If a feature is missing
