Draft a product launch plan with owners, dates and risks
Word or Copilot Chat
Short answer: Give Copilot your launch date, go-to-market notes and who owns what. Ask for a phased plan with owners and dates working back from launch. Then ask for a readiness checklist. Then use the follow-up after each readiness meeting to update it.

Launches slip in the gaps between teams: the pricing page nobody owned, the seller training nobody scheduled. A clear plan with owners closes those gaps. The person who runs a clean launch gets asked to run the next big one.
A common situation (composite)
Product, sales and support all need things from me.
The plan is spread across five chats.
I'm scared we'll miss something obvious.
What you get
- Data: the launch date, go-to-market notes and the people involved.
- Does: builds a phased plan and a readiness checklist.
- Output: a launch plan you can share and update.
- How often: for every launch, updated weekly.
Before you start
- Needs: Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat with pasted notes works. A Microsoft 365 Copilot license lets Copilot use your files and meetings directly. Not sure what you have? Start here.
- Microsoft's label for this scenario: Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio.
- Where: Copilot in Word, or Copilot Chat.
- Access: Copilot only uses content you already have permission to open. Use only information your company allows in Copilot.
The steps
- Collect your go-to-market notes, any planning meeting recaps and the launch date.
- Run the prompt in Word, referencing the files, or paste them into Copilot Chat.
- Check every owner with the actual person before you share it.
- After each readiness meeting, run the follow-up with the recap.
- Keep one version as the source everyone uses.
Copy this prompt
Draft a launch plan for [product], launching on [date].
Go-to-market notes: [file or paste]
Teams involved and owners: [list]
Include:
- Phases (prep, readiness, launch week, first 30 days) with dates working back from launch
- A table: Task | Owner | Due date | Depends on | Status
- A readiness checklist (pricing, website, sales training, support docs, legal review, announcement)
- Top five risks, each with an owner and a fallback
Use only owners I listed. If a task has no owner, write UNASSIGNED.

Make it better
Run this next, in the same chat.
Here's the recap from this week's readiness meeting: [paste or reference]. Update the plan: mark what's done, move dates that changed, and list any new blockers at the top with who needs to act. Show me only what changed.
(Prompt from stuckwithcopilot.com/guides/launch-plan/)
Data tip: use this with your work Copilot, and leave out passwords, payment details and anything your company marks restricted.
What a good result looks like
Every task has an owner or says UNASSIGNED, dates work back from launch, and the risks have real fallbacks.
If a feature is missing
If you can't reference files, paste the notes into Copilot Chat and keep the plan in a shared Word file or Copilot Page.
Make it smarter
Keep a short "What it got wrong" note. Paste it above the prompt next time, like "Don't invent dates".
Not sure what to ask? Copy the quick note for your Copilot admin.
Questions people ask
Draft a product launch plan with owners, dates and risks?
Give Copilot your launch date, go-to-market notes and who owns what. Ask for a phased plan with owners and dates working back from launch. Then ask for a readiness checklist. Then use the follow-up after each readiness meeting to update it.
What do I need for this?
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat with pasted notes works. A Microsoft 365 Copilot license lets Copilot use your files and meetings directly. If you can't reference files, paste the notes into Copilot Chat and keep the plan in a shared Word file or Copilot Page.
Does this need Copilot Studio?
No. Microsoft's version of this scenario mentions Copilot Studio for a custom agent. This guide only needs Copilot, and Copilot Chat works with pasted notes.
How detailed should the plan be?
One line per task, one owner per line. If a task needs its own plan, link to it.
What about seller training?
Use the seller talk track guide to turn the launch messaging into something sellers can say.
Try it once, then make it yours.
