Get your CRM inside Copilot: what the Sales agent does and what to ask IT for
Sales agent
Short answer: The Sales agent brings records from Dynamics 365 Sales or Salesforce into Copilot, Outlook and Teams. The Sales agent in Copilot Chat needs a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, and the Sales app in Outlook and Teams can also come with an eligible Dynamics 365 license. It installs automatically for Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise and Premium users, and you can add it yourself unless your company blocks it. Your CRM admin has to choose which CRM tables it can read. Older Microsoft material, including its sales scenario slides, still calls it Copilot for Sales.

A lot of Microsoft's sales demos quietly assume your CRM is wired into Copilot. If it isn't, those prompts come back empty and it feels like you're doing it wrong. You're not. Find out what you have, then ask for the right thing. The seller who knows how to pull account history in ten seconds walks into every meeting better prepared.
A common situation (composite)
The training video showed opportunity stages right in Outlook.
My Copilot has never heard of our CRM.
I don't even know what to ask IT for.
What you get
- Data: your Copilot label and whether a Sales app shows up in Outlook, Teams or the agent list.
- Does: checks what you have and pulls CRM context if it's connected.
- Output: a meeting-prep summary with sources marked, or a short note for IT.
- How often: before every customer meeting once it's set up.
Before you start
- Needs: A Microsoft 365 Copilot license for the Sales agent in Copilot Chat (the Outlook and Teams Sales app can come with an eligible Dynamics 365 license), plus a CRM connection your CRM admin has set up. Not sure what you have? Start here.
- Where: Copilot Chat (the Sales agent), Outlook and Teams.
- Access: Copilot only uses content you already have permission to open. Use only information your company allows in Copilot.
The steps
- In Copilot Chat, look at your agents for one called Sales. In Outlook, look for a Sales app in the ribbon or apps list.
- If it's there, run the prompt below before your next customer meeting.
- If it says CRM knowledge isn't set up, or you don't have access, your CRM admin needs to set that up. Send them the note in the FAQ.
- If you don't see it, you can add the Sales app from the apps store in Outlook or Teams, unless your company blocks it. It works with Dynamics 365 Sales (online) or Salesforce Sales Cloud, and isn't offered in US government or sovereign clouds.
- Until then, use the customer account lookup guide with your email and files.
Copy this prompt
I'm meeting [customer] on [date]. Using our CRM records and my emails and meetings from the last 60 days, give me:
- Open opportunities and their stage
- The last three things they asked for
- Anything we promised and haven't done
- Who I'm meeting and their role
Mark each point CRM or EMAIL so I know where it came from. If you can't see CRM data, say so plainly instead of filling the gap.
(Prompt from stuckwithcopilot.com/guides/sales-agent-crm-in-copilot/)
Make it better
Run this next, in the same chat.
Now turn that into a one-minute brief I can read in the hallway: three bullets on where the deal stands, one risk, and the one question I most need answered in this meeting. Keep the CRM and EMAIL labels.
(Prompt from stuckwithcopilot.com/guides/sales-agent-crm-in-copilot/)
Data tip: use this with your work Copilot, and leave out passwords, payment details and anything your company marks restricted.
What a good result looks like
Every point is labeled CRM or EMAIL, and the CRM points match what you see in the CRM itself. If CRM isn't connected, Copilot says so instead of guessing.
If a feature is missing
No Sales agent? Export your account view from the CRM, paste it with your notes into Copilot Chat, and use the same prompt. Or use the customer account lookup guide for email and files.
Make it smarter
Keep a short "What it got wrong" note. Paste it above the prompt next time, like "Don't invent dates".
Not sure what to ask? Copy the quick note for your Copilot admin.

The Sales agent brings records from Dynamics 365 Sales or Salesforce into Copilot, Outlook and Teams. The Sales agent in Copilot Chat needs a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, and the Sales app in Outlook and Teams can also come with an eligible Dynamics 365 license. What do I need for this?
A Microsoft 365 Copilot license for the Sales agent in Copilot Chat (the Outlook and Teams Sales app can come with an eligible Dynamics 365 license), plus a CRM connection your CRM admin has set up. No Sales agent? Export your account view from the CRM, paste it with your notes into Copilot Chat, and use the same prompt. Or use the customer account lookup guide for email and files.
Is Copilot for Sales the same as the Sales agent?
Microsoft's current documentation calls it the Sales agent. Older pages and Microsoft's own sales scenario slides still say Copilot for Sales. If a guide mentions either, it means the CRM-connected sales app.
What does it need?
For the Sales agent in Copilot Chat, a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The Sales app in Outlook and Teams can also come with an eligible Dynamics 365 license. It needs a connection to Dynamics 365 Sales (online, not on-premises) or Salesforce Sales Cloud (Professional edition or higher). Your CRM admin also has to configure which CRM tables and summaries it can use. It isn't supported in US GCC, GCC High, DoD or other sovereign clouds.
Who installs it?
It installs automatically for people with a Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise or Premium license. Anyone else can add the Sales app from the store in Outlook or Teams, unless an admin blocks it. Many companies have their Microsoft 365 admin roll it out to the whole team.
It's installed but says CRM knowledge hasn't been set up. Why?
The license gives you the agent, but your CRM admin still has to choose which CRM tables people can reach through it. Ask them to set up CRM access and account summaries for the Sales agent.
What should I send IT?
Try: "Could we set up the Sales agent for our sales team? The Copilot Chat part needs a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, and our CRM admin needs to configure which tables it can read. I'd use it for meeting prep, email summaries and CRM updates from Outlook."
Will it change my CRM records?
It can save emails and update records from Outlook if your company allows it, and it follows your existing CRM permissions. Check any update before you save it.
Try it once, then make it yours.
